Tourist bitten by shark at Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Volusia County Beach Safety officials said a tourist was bitten by a shark at Ormond Beach on Tuesday.

A 35 year-old woman visiting from Canada was bitten on the calf as she jumped off her surfboard in chest-deep water, officials said. She was treated on scene.

The shark was not spotted, said Capt. Tamra Marris of Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.

This is the third reported shark bite of the year in Volusia County.

On Monday, two swimmers were treated for possible shark bites in Brevard County. Shark sightings had forced officials to close several area beaches over the weekend.
