Tourist robbed outside International Drive hotel

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A tourist was robbed at gunpoint outside an Orange County hotel late Sunday night, according to Orange County deputies.

Deputies said a tourist from Scotland was walking through the parking lot of the Rosen Inn on International Drive when two men, one armed with a gun, approached him from behind.

According to deputies, the men took the victim's backpack, cellphone and other items.

Authorities called in a K-9 unit and helicopter to search for the robbers, but no arrests were made.

Deputies said they're hoping the victim will be able to give them a good description of the robbers, and they are checking surrounding properties for surveillance video.

"The person they robbed was a tourist, whether they knew that prior to the robbery we don't know," said Paul Hopkins of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Other tourists weighed in after hearing of the robbery.

"We've come here a lot," said German tourist Shahrzed Kanaizeadh. "We've been here a number of times and never had a problem. But it can happen."

Deputies don't believe the robbery is related to a series of hotel and restaurant robberies in central Florida recently.
