LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old Umatilla man was fatally struck Thursday evening in a hit-and-run crash in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jennifer Mendoza, 41, of Sorrento, was driving a Hyundai SUV shortly before 6:45 p.m. northbound on County Road 452 at Little Horse Drive when she tried to pass a truck, Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Antwan Bailey, who was walking with a bicycle in the southbound lane, was struck by Mendoza’s vehicle while she swerved to the left, Montes said.

Investigators said Mendoza stopped after the crash, but someone driving another vehicle ran over Bailey and fled.

Bailey died at the crash scene.

Montes said the vehicle of the motorist who fled was described as a smaller red passenger vehicle with possible damage to the front undercarriage.

The crash continues to be investigated.

No other details were given.
