Man arrested after leading deputies on two-county chase

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.,None — A Volusia County man is in jail after a high speed chase that wound through two Central Florida counties.

Deputies said 68-year-old Ronald Pinkerton of Port Orange wouldn't stop for them on Thursday. They said the chase started after several people called 911, saying he was driving the wrong way down U.S. 1 in Daytona Beach.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s helicopter captured video of the chase.

Deputies said Pinkerton blew through an intersection. Thirty minutes later, he was in Flagler County with sparks flying from his car because deputies put out stop sticks to blow out his tires.

The chase ended when deputies rammed Pinkerton's car, and then arrested him.

Deputies said they had to use a taser on him to get him out of the driver's seat.

Pinkerton is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding and assault and battery on law enforcement officers.  He is being held at the Flagler County jail on a $36,000 bond.

He also faces charges in Volusia County.
