Infant saved by Volusia County lifeguards in Daytona Beach Shores

The infant was moved to a local hospital following the procedure for a necessary precautionary evaluation

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Lifeguard EMTs successfully saved a choking infant Sept. 2 in Daytona Beach Shores, clearing an object from the child’s airway before transferring the infant to a hospital.

First responders were dispatched at approximately 3:22 p.m. to 2974 South Atlantic Ave. after receiving reports of an infant in distress.

Upon arrival, the child’s mother met the responding unit in the parking lot and handed the infant to emergency personnel.

Beach Safety staff promptly initiated basic life support on the child.

Emergency responders safely extracted the object blocking the infant’s airway. Afterward, the infant was taken to a nearby hospital for a precautionary check-up.
