‘White pride' posters on UCF campus concern for some

ORLANDO, Fla. — Some at the University of Central Florida are concerned after a pair of “white pride” fliers were posted on campus.

The posters were seen on campus Monday.

The group behind the posters, American Vanguard, registered its website less than three months ago.

The website offers a series of white pride posters.

One of the posters on campus features two people with the words, “We have a right to exist.”

The other shows a young man breaking chains with the words, “white guilt.”

The man’s face has similarities to a 1936 Nazi propaganda poster that was used to recruit German students.

While the website is new, it is filled with what it describes as “white pride” and spouts messages warning about the growing “non-white population.”

UCF sent an email to students that said, “We recognize that diversity and inclusivity strengthen us, and we condemn any form of hate, discrimination and injustice.”

The email gave students a pair of numbers to call if they need additional support.

Meanwhile, UCF’s Jewish Hillel Center said while it supports free speech, it finds the posters to be in poor taste.

“We’re just concerned. We want to make sure that UCF maintains its place as a safe space for students of all backgrounds,” said Sam Friedman, the assistant director of the center.

On American Vanguard’s website and Twitter feed are a number of pictures of people with the group’s logo, but their faces are blurred.

There’s also a message on the site asking people to print the posters and place them on college campuses.

Channel 9 tried to contact American Vanguard, but has not gotten a response.
