Winter Park's infamous Booby Trap strip club torn down

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The infamous Booby Trap strip club in Winter Park has been torn down.

Channel 9's Anthony DiLorenzo was there Wednesday as the old club on Lee Road turned into rubble.

Tom Veigel traveled to Winter Park to get one last look at the iconic topless club he built in the '70s.

"I was trying to put class to the topless business," Veigel told DiLorenzo.

The curvy construction of the building became the brunt of countless jokes among locals over the years.

"It gets people talking and look at the shape, you make jokes as you drive by," said neighbor Dave Dunn.

As of late, however, the double-domed building became a hot spot for crime and an eyesore for the small city.

"Winter Park is better than this, and it's what we're here to stand for today," said Mayor Ken Bradley.

It didn’t take demolition crew long to pick apart the 2,300-square-foot building that housed decades of memories.

"I never thought I'd stand in front of a strip club the city bought and tear it down today," said Bradley.

At the same time, the city put the prime piece of real estate on the market for $1 million, about as much as taxpayers paid for it.

Veigel said he wasn't sad to see the building go and supported tearing it down.

The site is expected to be fully cleared by Friday. It cost roughly $6,000 to remove.
