The woman said she frequently walks down the alleyway and was wearing earbuds when she was punched in the face.
“I wasn't carrying a purse, so his intentions were not to rob me. I didn't have anything on me but $5 and my phone,” said the victim, who did not want to be identified.
The woman said she was sure she would have been abducted had she not fought back. She was able to run away.
“After he hit me, he kind of just whiplashed back and I fought him. It was, like, a span of 45 seconds, and I just, once I knew his hands weren't on me anymore, and I just ran. I didn't look back, nothing,” she said.
Neighbor Terri Hoover said the alleyway is a common shortcut used by many people in the neighborhood.
“I see them constantly walking to work, and everybody walks over to Walmart and does their little shopping,” Hoover said. “We're a walking neighborhood.”
Police said the attacker was described as a tall, dark-skinned man, wearing all black and a beanie cap. They believe he left the scene in a dark, four-door car.
