Police ID victims, suspected gunman in Titusville hospital shooting

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Investigators identified the suspected gunman and the two women he fatally shot early Sunday at Titusville's Parrish Medical Center, the Titusville Police Department said.

Police said David Owens, 29, of Titusville, fatally shot Cynthia Zingsheim, 88, of Titusville, and Carrie Rouzer, 36, of Titusville, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

Zingsheim was a patient at the hospital, and Rouzer was employed at the hospital, officials said.

"The preliminary investigation reveals that the lone suspect entered through the emergency room area," Titusville Police Chief John Lau said. "He made his way to a room on the third floor, where he shot an elderly female patient in her room and a hospital employee, who was also in the room."

Officials said Owens left a handgun in the hospital room.

The hospital's unarmed security guards tackled Owens and held him down for police officers.

"Investigators have not been able to determine a motive at this time, nor any connection to the victims," Lau said. "They are continuing to investigate this tragic incident."

Court records indicate Owens had a criminal history and was involuntarily committed at least twice.
