Some residents surprised when told they already voted as polls open for Florida primary

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Polling locations all over the state are open for voters to cast their ballots in the Florida primary election Tuesday.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Just do it.  It doesn't matter what side of the line you are voting on,” said voter Jerome Hess.

But some voters had issues Tuesday.

Lita Caselli arrived early to cast her vote at the Oviedo precinct. However, a poll worker told her she had already voted.

“She asked me, ‘Did you already vote?’ And I said, ‘No.’ She goes, ‘This says you've already voted,’” Caselli said.

Caselli said she had already filled out her sample ballot and she was prepared to walk in and out. But the process would be more difficult that she imagined after she said workers made phone calls to the Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Office.

She watched as her husband and other voters went through the same dilemma.

“There were three of us that were having problems with their electronic pads.  Three different pads said that these people have already voted,” said Caselli. “What comes to mind is voter fraud and hacking. What else?”

Supervisor of Elections Mike Ertel said there were check in issues at Precinct 78 on State Road 426 near West Chapman Road.  He said the iPads used to check in voters hadn't been updated since March.

Ertel said employees were updating the devices but voters could still check in through a hard copy list and cast their vote on a paper ballot.

That is a process that has Caselli unsure her vote will even be counted.

“I think I voted,” said Caselli said. “The integrity of my vote.  It was all lost right there.”
