QB Clint Trickett transferring to West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Former Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett has transferred to West Virginia, a WVU spokesman said.

West Virginia football spokesman Mike Montoro confirmed Trickett's transfer Wednesday.

Trickett was released from his Florida State scholarship last month. The junior is on target to graduate this month and can transfer and be eligible to play in the fall. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Trickett had been competing for the Seminoles' starting job during spring practice that wrapped up in mid-April.

He will compete in West Virginia's fall camp with Paul Millard and Ford Childress for the starting job left by the departed Geno Smith.

Trickett's father, Rick, spent six seasons as offensive line coach at West Virginia before leaving for the same job at Florida State in 2007.

Trickett completed 22 of 32 passes for 259 yards during Florida State's spring game, but redshirt freshman Jameis Winston was the star and seemed to establish himself as the front-runner to start this season. Sophomore Jacob Coker is also in the mix.

Trickett played eight games last season as EJ Manuel's backup and went 22 of 34 for 272 yards. In 2011, he started games against Wake Forest and Clemson. He passed for 336 yards and three touchdowns at Clemson.
