Lobster divers make grisly discovery near Key Largo: human remains

KEY LARGO, Fla. — A Naples couple found more than expected when they went diving for lobsters off the Florida Keys Sunday.

The man and woman were lobstering under a bridge near Key Largo when they made a gruesome discovery; a skull and other human remains, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The couple flagged down a Florida Fish & Wildlife official to report the find.

The bones were turned over to the medical examiner, but an initial examination did not provide any clues as to "who they may have belonged to, how long they have been there or what may have caused the person's death," according to a sheriff's office press release.

The bones could belong to a man who may have jumped from the bridge in 2013, the Florida Keys News reported. The victim's remains were never found.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information on the case to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
