Rance Howard, father of director, actor and producer Ron Howard and actor Clint Howard, died Saturday at the age of 89.
Rance Howard moved from Oklahoma to Hollywood where he carved out a career as a character actor that spanned six decades, including appearances in "Frontier Woman," "Chinatown," and "A Beautiful Mind."
Ron Howard shared news of the passing on Twitter.
“Clint (and) I have been blessed to be Rance Howard’s sons,” Howard wrote. “He stood especially tall (for) his ability to balance ambition (with) great personal integrity. A depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history."

Rance Howard’s wife Judy died in January.
In addition to his sons, Howard’s survived by granddaughters Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard.
