5 things to know about WFTV meteorologist George Waldenberger

WFTV meteorologist George Waldenberger has given you forecasts, storm warnings, good news about beautiful days and bad news about rain ruining your weekend plans.

But there is a lot more to George than what you see on TV and the web.

Here are five things to know about George Waldenberger:

He’s from a big Midwestern family

George grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin in a family of 13.

Snowboarding, motorcycles and chemistry, oh my!

In addition to being a meteorologist, George worked as a snowboarding instructor, motorcycle training assistant and was a teaching assistant in the chemistry department at UCLA.

Charitable work

George has worked with various charities, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Alphapointe Association for the Blind.

Storm chaser!

Not only has George surveyed tornado damage and met the people impacted, he’s, on more than one occasion, chased the storms… in a helicopter.

World traveler, truck racer and barefoot hiker

If there’s one thing George loves more than anything else, it’s traveling off the beaten path. He’s hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, spent the night sleeping on the sand in Death Valley, chased a racing truck through Mexico on the Baja 500 and walked barefoot through the Saklikent gorge in Turkey.
