Child struck in hit-and-run in Orange County, troopers said.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Troopers are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run crash, investigators said.

The child, identified as Robinswood Middle School student Kimare Joseph, was struck just after 4 p.m. Friday at North Hiawassee Road and Balboa Drive in Orlando.

Troopers said Kimare was crossing Hiawassee Road at Balboa Drive in the crosswalk, but against the light, when he was hit by a driver going south on Hiawassee Road.

There were two crossing guards at the intersection but the boy crossed without them, according to FHP's report.

The driver who hit Kimare never stopped, troopers said.

Troopers received conflicting information about the color and type of vehicle that struck the boy.

Kimare was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital as a trauma alert patient, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. Troopers said the child is in stable condition.

Frantz Vilain lives just yards from where the boy was hit and had a message for the driver: Turn yourself in.

"In a situation like this, and you just took off, it's not nice," Vilain said. "It's not nice.

"What do you think about the parents of the child that you hit on the road?"

Even if Kimare was crossing when he shouldn't have been, that's no excuse not to stop, the boy's father and grandfather said.
