FHP has tips for traveling this holiday season

ORLANDO, Fla. — There will be more help getting stranded drivers out of a jam this holiday weekend.

The Florida Department of Transportation said its road rangers will be ready if drivers run into trouble while traveling.

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest traveling days of the year.

"Whether it’s your vehicle that has broken down for whatever reason, a flat tire, or even if you've run out of gas, they will be out there to help you,” said Trooper Steven Montier of the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said that drivers facing issues on the road should call *347. That number will be directed to FHP's dispatch center, where drivers will likely get a road ranger and not a trooper.

One of the most important things a driver can do is to know exactly where they are so rangers can get to them sooner.

“Every mile on the side of the road, a mile marker is given. You need give an idea of what mile marker you are on and what interstate you are on. From there, we can help find where you are at," said Montier.

If a driver needs to pull over, FHP is asking that they do so as far right as possible.
