Gonzalez tried to cross Cypress Parkway when he walked into the path of a car being driven by Joel Beard, 49, of Kissimmee, Montes said.
Investigators said Reynaldo Bennett, 26, of Kissimmee was unable to stop and ran over Gonzalez, who died at the scene.
The Osceola County School District said the crash caused delays for drivers traveling to the following schools: Liberty and Poinciana high schools; Deerwood, Koa and Chestnut elementary schools; and the Poinciana Academy of Fine Arts and Discovery Intermediate School.
A spokesperson for the school district said they called parents to notify them of the delays and that students would not be penalized for any tardiness.
The crash remains under investigation.
