High risk for tornadoes across Central Florida Sunday, Monday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Hurricane Irma is expected to impact Central Florida Sunday night into Monday. Not only will people see high winds, some rain and power outages, there's also an increased chance of tornadoes, according to WFTV certified meteorologist Brian Shields.

Hurricane Irma will be to the west of Central Florida and that means we are on the side of the storm that typically produces more tornadoes.

The tornado threat will be high Sunday into early Monday.

Our WFTV team of meteorologists will closely monitor any signs of rotating storms and if any warnings are issued, we’ll let you know and be with you every step of the way. They have asked people sleep downstairs and away from windows Sunday night.
