Hurricane Irma aftermath: Water available for Astor residents

ASTOR, Fla. — A distribution site has been set up so Astor residents can receive water.

Residents can go to Astor Boat Ramp, 55400 Butler Street, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

One case of water is available per household, county officials said. Residents must prove they’re a resident of Astor, and ice is not available.

A comfort area, with port-a-potties and hand washing stations have been set up at the water distribution site as well.

A cellphone charging station has been set up at First Baptist Church of Astor, 24731 Ann St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A voluntary evacuation order remains in effect for the Astor and Lake George areas after Hurricane Irma caused flooding in the area from the St. Johns River.

Sandbags are also available around the clock at Lake County Fire Station 10, located at 23023 State Road 40.

The river levels are expected to be above flood stage until next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Lake County has also been declared a federal disaster declaration area by FEMA. People can apply for assistance here.
