Hurricane Irma: Central Florida gets prepared

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Central Florida is still days away from knowing the path of Hurricane Irma, but that’s not stopping people from getting prepared.

Many people spent their Labor Day at Home Depot stocking up on plywood, plastic tarps and water.

“Some two-by-four some tie wire, batteries and flashlights,” said Ollie Mitchell, who is stocking up on supplies. “I have already buckled up half of my house. I did the front of it the other day, and everybody thought I was nuts, and now I am ahead of the ballgame.”

“We got water, supplies for the house. Stocked up on some food, canned goods and things like that,” said Lynn Sawyer.

The WFTV team of meteorologists urge people to be hurricane ready. People should have a plan in place, have supplies handy and download the free WFTV weather app.

The Home Depot at Semoran Boulevard and E. Colonial Drive has already run out of generators. The manager urges people to order online or call ahead when shopping for a specific item.
