The Sykes Creek Bridge on Sea Ray Drive in Cocoa remains shut down to traffic due to damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
Vehicles unable to traverse the waterway could be one of several problems damage to the bridge could end up causing, as it also carries a water main that services thousands of Cocoa water customers.
The Cocoa Utilities Department was at the bridge Monday to take a closer look at the scouring and erosion created by rough surf during Irma.
Without some sort of stabilization in the near future, the bridge is in danger of collapsing, officials said.
A surveyor was called to the bridge Monday and Brevard County officials told Channel 9 that they would be meeting with a contractor Tuesday evening to discuss their options with the bridge.
Officials said the options available start at a short-term repair and could end up being a total replacement with a price tag of up to $3 million.
In the event of a collapse of the bridge or break in the water main, Cocoa officials said there is a backup plan in place and the 7,000 customers that could be affected will not go without water.
