Injured pelican rescued by Daytona law officials

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — Risk to human life is very real as Hurricane Irma encroaches on Florida, but it isn't only people affected by the storm.

An injured pelican was rescued by the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety Sunday.

Facebook reaction was uniformly positive, with one user commenting that "this is exactly why I love you all. You guys are great at what you do and so compassionate!"

According to the agency's social media accounts, the injured bird will ride out the storm alongside officers at the department station.

It's not just people affected by Irma. Our officers rescued this injured pelican and he will ride out the storm with us at the station.
