'We need more nurses,' Gov. Scott pleads before Hurricane Irma hits

SARASOTA, Fla. — Florida Gov. Rick Scott made a plea Saturday morning for nurses to help at all the state’s special needs shelters.

“Protecting life is our absolute top priority,” Scott said.

Scott has asked for 1,000 volunteer nurses at the shelters and to contact BPRCHDPreparedness@flhealth.gov

The governor said 5.6 million Floridians have been ordered to evacuate their homes.

“Once the storm starts, law enforcement can’t come get you,” Scott said.
