Strong low pressure system brought waves over 30 feet for Cruise Ship

Same low pressure system that brought the rain to Central Florida on Saturday, intensified over the last 24 hours and brought waves over 30 feet in height to a Royal Caribbean cruise ship traveling over the Atlantic, about 250 miles south of Cape Hatteras.

On Monday morning, the low pressure is traveling northeast and is about 400 miles away from the coast of New England. New York is under a winter storm advisory until 6 p.m. Monday, and could receive accumulations of up to 3 inches, wind gusts of 30 mph. From Connecticut to the eastern half of Massachusetts a winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow and accumulations of up to 8 inches are likely; expect gusts up to 35 mph.

The big difference in pressure, the pressure gradient, across our region is also bringing us breezy conditions inland and windy across the coastal areas where winds gusts up to 30 mph are expected.
Hazardous boating and surfing condition along local beaches. Small craft advisory in effect through 4 a.m. Thursday. Gale advisory in effect across the open waters, 20 nautical miles out, 7 p.m. this evening through Tuesday afternoon.

This week we will receive three more fronts which will keep the cooler trend going. Windy conditions should prevail at least until mid-week.
