Candy shop offers free fudge for those over 300 lbs on Mardi Gras

WAYNESVILLE, MO. — A Missouri candy shop is embracing the term "Fat Tuesday."

The Route 66 Candy Shoppe in Waynesville is giving away free fudge to obese customers Tuesday.

The deal is only for those weighing more than 300 pounds.

Shop owner Charley Dill said that wasn't his intent.

Since announcing the promotion on Facebook, some have said the whole gimmick is offensive.

"We're not trying to make a statement or do anything to offend anyone, we just thought it was a way to invite people to come in and have a good laugh," said Dill.

Dill said this is just one of many promotions the store plans to offer to get people talking.

The shop just opened in February.
