DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Beach Police Department says it has found the parents of a child found wandering alone in only his underpants Tuesday at Jade Park Apartments on Jimmy Ann Drive.

Investigators called the incident an unfortunate accident.

Police announced just after 9 p.m. that the child's parents had been found.

"The parents take turns watching the little boy because they work different shifts and mom was at work and dad fell asleep and I guess somehow (the boy) got out," DBPD spokeswoman Lyda Longa said.

He was found at about 5:15 p.m.

Officers did a walk-through at the boy's apartment and said they didn't find anything of concern.

The child remained at the Daytona Beach Police Department headquarters while the Florida Department of Children and Families conducted an investigation into the incident.
