Disney guests can experience Animal Kingdom at night starting Friday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Friday marks the first day Disney guests will be allowed to experience Animal Kingdom in the dark.

Animal Kingdom will ignite the night when the iconic Tree of Life hosts its "Awakenings" light show.

"The 'Awakening' is how the animal spirits reveal themselves to us and that is through beautiful, wonderful (and) relatable fables--stories from the world of animals," said show director Marsha Jackson-Randolph.

On Saturday, the much anticipated Jungle Book "Alive with Magic" will hit the Disney stage.

Guests will be able to ride the Kilimanjaro safaris while Discovery Island's Carnivale comes to life in a "Wildlife Party."

"It takes its inspiration from Carnivale celebrations from all over the world and it truly is an interactive party," Jackson-Randolph said.

Disney will also feature dishes and cocktails that celebrate the cuisines of Asia, Africa and South America; part of an enhanced experience that park officials hope will give fans another takeaway of the Animal Kingdom.

"The new way they will talk about the Animal Kingdom upon leaving will be (magical)," Jackson-Randolph said.

At Epcot, final flights of the classic version of "Soarin Experience" are now underway through June 15 and the new, renovated ride opens June 17.
