MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Some Marion County families had no idea that when their televisions and lights began to flicker that it would force them from their homes due to safety reasons.
Tauja Mathis said things got crazy in her apartment Tuesday night when her electrical appliances began turning on and off.
"I mean, it was going crazy. It was like, oh my goodness," she said. "I don't like to say this, but (they were) possessed."
It happened in Trasheka Moore's apartment, too.
"The lights would burst. Not burst, burst, but we'd hear them pop and then they would blow," she said.
In all, seven families were forced out of their apartment by order of the city until the problem is repaired.
The Red Cross put residents up in a local hotel the first night.
Owners of the complex said they'll foot the bill for the families until the power is safely back on. They said they'll also pay for anything that goes bad in renters' refrigerators.
Management said they had already ordered a new electrical unit to power the building, and it's being flown in and replaced by Friday.
