Fundraisers held for bullied girl after suicide

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Fundraisers are being held to help cover funeral expenses for the 12-year-old Lakeland girl who authorities say was bullied for months before her suicide.

The first fundraiser for Rebecca Sedwick was held Saturday in Brandon. WTSP reports volunteers are having a car wash at a 7-Eleven in Lakeland on Sunday for a second fundraiser.

Her funeral is Monday at the Whidden McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Attendees are asked to wear bright colors.

Authorities have seized computers and cellphones from some of the girls as they decide whether to bring charges.

Polk County authorities say Sedwick was "terrorized" for nearly a year. The bullying started over a "boyfriend issue." Last Monday, authorities say she climbed a tower at an abandoned concrete plant and hurled herself to her death.
