Judge gives accused Florida hacker 42-year sentence for child porn

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Florida man accused of sexually abusing a toddler and hacking a charitable organization's computer systems  has been sentenced to 42 years in jail for producing and possessing child pornography.

A judge sentenced 43-year-old Timothy Sedlak  on Monday in Orlando.

The child-porn investigation began during a federal investigation into the hacking of a Manhattan-based global nonprofits computer network, officials said.

Federal authorities could find no record of Sedlak being registered in Florida as a private investigator.

When questioned, Sedlak told investigators that he was working as a private investigator and couldn't discuss the work he was doing.

In later interviews, Sedlak told investigators he was trying to find connections between charities and jihadist groups, but agents contended he was doing illegal hacking.

Investigators reported finding a network of 30 computers and evidence of hacking software when they searched Sedlak's home, according to federal court documents.

During the search of the home, agents said they found children's toys, though Sedlak said he lived alone.

As they searched his computers, they found child porn, including one of him sexually assaulting a small child.

A jury found him guilty in May.

Sedlak is awaiting trial on the hacking charges.
