ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Utilities officials reported Wednesday a 47,000-gallon sewage spill in the area of John Young Parkway and National Parks Drive.
According to information from the county, the incident started at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when a 12-inch pipe overflowed due to the failure of a 2-inch corporation stop.
Of the 47,000 gallons of untreated sewage, 46,000 gallons were recovered but 1,000 gallons soaked into the ground and could not be recovered.
Just before 1 p.m., the leak was stopped and the sewage was recovered, a county filing with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection said.
The spill did not affect any waterways, county information said.
The spill constitutes a "minimal risk to public health, safety or welfare," the filing said.
