Service restored on tram after technical glitch at Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, Fla. — A technical issue halted a tram for four hours Wednesday morning at Orlando International Airport, officials said.

The service was restored just before 1 p.m., officials said.

Passengers were removed from a tram on Airside 3 after the vehicle stopped, airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said.

Airport officials wouldn't specify what caused the tram to stop.

A bus took the passengers to another tram, Fennell said. Shuttle service to and from gates 30 through 59 was temporarily interrupted.

The stoppage affected about 7,000 passengers.

"Clearly, it caused a major inconvenience and we need to focus on how we can avoid this in the future," Greater Orlando Airport Authority executive director Phil Brown said.

There were no security issues related to the stopped tram, Fennell said.

The stopped tram caused some backups at the airport. Cellphone footage showed a large crowd waiting.

Officials recommend that passengers arrive at the airport early for departing flights.
