DELTONA, Fla. — A 19-year-old man was arrested after Volusia County deputies said he stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her father inside a Deltona home early Thursday morning.
Rachel Ehrbar, 18, told deputies that she woke up to find her father, Charles Ghaston, and her ex-boyfriend, Bryan Padilla, fighting in the home on Ancho Court, just off Humphrey Boulevard.
Ehrbar said she tried to break up the fight but was knocked unconscious by Padilla.
Deputies said when she regained consciousness she found that her father had been stabbed multiple times in the stomach and the head.
Padilla was still in the home. Deputies said Ehrbar then fled and Padilla chased her until she started knocking on neighbors' doors and screaming for help.
Padilla then got into his car and fled the scene.
“She was distraught and she was like, ‘I don’t believe he tried to kill my family’ and stuff. She was all upset, just screaming and going crazy,” said neighbor George Tzortzis.
Meanwhile, Ghaston had stumbled out of the house and made it to a neighbor's home, where he collapsed and was later found by deputies.
He was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and is expected to survive.
Deputies found Padilla at the intersection of Howland Boulevard and Catalina Boulevard at about 7:48 a.m. Thursday.
Padilla was arrested without further incident, deputies said.
Padilla was also injured and had gauze wrapped around his head.
Deputies said his injuries were from being hit by his ex-girlfriend.
