SOUTH FLORIDA — Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission panther biologist Mark Lotz recently helped rescue a panther near a fence on a road known as “Alligator Alley” in South Florida.

The panther was in good condition, though it had some scratches on it from when it tried to run through the fence, Lotz said.

FWC opened a section of the fence to help the panther run away.

are a few ways drivers can help protect the wildlife.

Vehicle strikes are the number one cause of Florida panther deaths so far in 2016, according to FWC.
