Wild boars a growing concern in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. — In an effort to keep drivers safe, authorities in Melbourne have contracted a company to trap wild boars before they cause a major accident, Channel 9 has learned.

Boars living off Sarno Road near Wickham are being removed from the area due to growing concern that they'll cause traffic accidents when crossing the roads.

A couple years ago, a 400-pound boar totaled two vehicles in the area.

On Monday, Dean already trapped four wild boar. The largest he's bagged so far was a 140-pound boar a couple weeks ago.

Trapper James Dean told Channel 9 he's caught 17 wild boars since June 2, but he thinks there's more than double that amount living in the nearby woods.
