ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — One person died Thursday morning when a dump truck and a pickup truck collided and caused a fuel spill, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. on South Goldenrod Road at Fort Jefferson Boulevard, troopers said.

The collision ruptured the dump truck’s fuel pump, causing 25 to 30 gallons of fuel to spill onto the road, officials said.

The dump truck caught fire, but firefighters extinguished the flames.

Two people in the pickup were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where one of them died.

The severity of the other person's injuries is unknown, firefighters said.

Witnesses told Channel 9 that the person driving the dump truck was trying to make a U-turn when the vehicles collided.

Troopers said the southbound lanes of the road will remain closed for several hours.

None of the people involved were publicly identified.

No other details were given.
