Jury selection underway for security guard accused of killing Orlando woman

ORLANDO, Fla. — Jury selection is underway in the murder trial involving a security guard who worked at a downtown Orlando apartment complex.

Stephen Duxbury is accused of raping and strangling Sasha Samsudean, 27, inside her apartment at Uptown Place in October 2015.

Many potential jurors were dismissed because they've heard about the high-profile case. Other potential jurors recognized Duxbury's attorney, Cheney Mason, who represented Casey Anthony.

The jury in this case is likely to hear excerpts of a lie detector test during which Duxbury made potentially incriminating statements.

Jurors will see key circumstantial evidence like his shoes, which allegedly left footprints in Samsudean's apartment, as well as fingerprints he left in her bathroom, investigators said.

The one thing they will not get is any eyewitness testimony or video placing Duxbury at the scene of the crime. There is video of Duxbury and Samsudean walking in the hallway at the apartments.

Duxbury faces life in prison if convicted in Samsudean’s death.

Jury selection continues at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Eyewitness News will live stream the trial when a jury is seated.
