More complaints about mail carriers in Apopka

APOPKA, Fla. — Residents have raised more concerns to Eyewitness News about how their mail is treated in Apopka.

One resident told Channel 9's Cuthbert Langley that a mail carrier shoved expensive and confidential mail into his mailbox so forcefully, it went out the back door of the mailbox and onto the ground.

A spokesperson with the post office told Eyewitness News it is investigating the incident, after Eyewitness News and neighbors began asking questions.

“If someone would have come by and picked up the mail, I would have probably never known,” Joseph Myers said.

Myers said the mail carrier roughed up a laptop hard drive and a confidential letter.

“I don't see how in the world he would have not known that he had put the mail on the ground,” Myers said.

A post office spokesperson told Eyewitness News in an email, “I will share this information with the postmaster for follow-up and resolution.”

Eyewitness News reported last month a different mail carrier was caught on video throwing a package onto an Apopka resident's porch.

A post office spokesperson would not confirm if the mail carrier is still employed.

A landlord in Apopka told Eyewitness News that slow mail is delaying rent payments from tenants.

“We just kind of scratch our heads and say, ‘Why does it take seven days now, when you used to be able to get a letter in two days?’” said Jim Sursely.

A spokesperson told residents to come to the postmaster with concerns about mail carriers.
