Shotgun shell, fish hook, razor found in Central Florida toll booths

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Toll workers for the Central Florida Expressway Authority find some bizarre and dangerous things when they remove money from the toll money collection baskets.

Channel 9's Racquel Asa got a look at some of the other items that people tried to use to skip out on paying tolls and learned which booths are more prone to getting jammed.

The toll plaza that is serviced the most is off State Road 408 when drivers throw dollar bills into the basket.

Toll money collectors said they’ve removed a shotgun shell, a broken shot glass, a rusty fish hook and razor are a few of the other items from toll baskets in the last month.

Eyewitness News asked the Central Florida Expressway Authority if drivers who do pay get punished when others intentionally jam the machines. A spokesperson said the system is not supposed to charge drivers until a machine is fixed.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority told Eyewitness News that if a driver comes across a jammed booth, they should drive on and dispute the charge later if a bill is sent to the driver.

A majority of toll road users use an E-Pass or a SunPass. But the Expressway Authority hopes more people switch to a transponder to avoid receiving bills in the mail.
