St. Cloud man found guilty in 3-month-old son's beating death

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — A 12-member jury on Thursday found a St. Cloud man guilty of killing his 3-month-old son.

Investigators said Larry Perry beat Ayden Perry so badly at their home in 2013 that the boy died at a hospital.

The trial began Wednesday, and the jury reached a verdict by 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Perry was found guilty on counts of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

About two hours into deliberations, the jury returned to court with a request to take another look at two videos that were played during the trial.

One was a video of Perry’s confession, and the other was of a demonstration he did for police, using a doll to show what he has done to the child.

Jurors heard Perry say he “went crazy” when the infant wouldn’t stop crying.

They watched him act out how he inflicted the devastating injuries on the child, which included kicking the baby, slamming his head and twisting his neck.

Perry faces the death penalty.

The case was one of 24 that Florida Gov. Rick Scott reassigned from State Attorney Aramis Ayala to State Attorney Brad King after she announced she wouldn't pursue the death penalty during her tenure.
