ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9’s Racquel Asa found out Wednesday that the intersection of John Young Parkway and Sand Lake Road is going to get a flyover to break up some of the traffic.
The flyover project, which will also allow drivers to bypass the light, is one of three road projects scheduled at the same time.
It involves a couple of miles of Sand Lake Road toward Lockheed Martin and I-Drive.
James Alter said had he known about the construction, he may not have opened a store in the area five months ago.
“We would have played that into our thoughts, but we never heard anything about it,” Alter said.
Orange County officials told Eyewitness News the construction on the flyover won't start until later this summer.
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to make the tourist area more pedestrian friendly, add extra lanes and repave the road between John Young Parkway and Universal Boulevard.
That means that nearly 3 miles of Sand Lake Road will be under construction while the flyover is being built.
A spokesperson for the state told Eyewitness News if the state hadn’t combined the projects with the county, the area would be under construction for a far longer time.
All three projects will cost $80 million and will take roughly three years to complete.
