El Paso, Texas, native Khalid announces benefit concert for shooting victims

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso, Texas, native Khalid responded to the mass shooting in his hometown over the weekend by announcing a benefit concert Monday for the victims.

"Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy," the popular R&B singer and songwriter said in a social media post.

Khalid said he was bothered by the violent attack that claimed 22 lives and injured dozens more at a crowded Walmart store in the border town Saturday morning.

"Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking," he wrote.

The musician said he's planning a benefit concert later this month with all the proceeds going to the families affected by the shooting.
