DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — 9 investigates learned a Daytona Beach police officer who was under investigation twice in the last year was again stripped of his gun and his badge, but police won’t say why.
Daytona Beach police Sgt. Joseph Sellix is on paid administrative leave as he’s investigated again only three weeks after his last internal affairs investigation was completed.
Several weeks ago, investigators sustained an allegation that Sellix sexually harassed a female officer while on duty in October.
According to a 13-page report from the internal affairs investigation, Sellix asked to look at the officer's new haircut. The officer said she felt as if Sellix was checking her out, and that his comments and demeanor were unwanted and unwelcome, causing her emotional distress.
Sellix was suspended for 24 hours.
In November, Sellix was suspended for 12 hours for making a sexual remark to a female officer as they were leaving a call, an incident recorded by a body-worn camera.
Records show that during that same call, Sellix Googled modeling pictures of a woman involved in a domestic disturbance and made comments about her appearance and later contacted her on Facebook.
Also in 2015, Sellix was suspended for 36 hours for allowing three juveniles in a stolen car to go free. Reports show Sellix released the juveniles to their mother and returned the car to her without running the vehicle's VIN number to see if it was stolen.
Sellix didn’t respond to Channel 9’s request for comment.
The police department declined to comment on the allegations.
A police union representative said the group’s attorney is reviewing evidence of the newest allegations against Sellix.
