ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando police officer, who investigates other cops, is off the job and accused of drinking, hitting another vehicle in her city-issued car and taking off.
Dash-cam video captured Ana Coughlan, who was off-duty, during the incident in Altamonte Springs.
9 Investigates found out she admitted she had been drinking at World of Beer.
A 911 caller witnessed the crash.
The caller said it happened in front of The Lofts apartments and that Coughlan hit another car as she was trying to parallel park.
He took down the woman’s license plate number and went up to her window to confront her.
He described her as being “really drunk.”
Even though police said she left the scene, that off-duty officer was given a slap on the wrist.
Coughlan was given a criminal citation for the hit-and-run.
She was not issued a field sobriety test and wasn’t sent to jail.
Channel 9’s Karla Ray asked Altamonte Springs Police if any special treatment was given to the Orlando police officer.
“It’s a misdemeanor. It’s a criminal citation. It’s officer discretion,” Robert Pelton of the Altamonte Springs Police Department said.
Coughlan has been relieved of duty and is under internal investigation. She’s still getting paid.
Altamonte Springs police has not launched any investigation into how the officer handled the call.
