SORRENTO, Fla. — A man suspected of robbing a bank in Eustis, surrendered after a stand-off with police Thursday night.
Officers said the suspect finally came out after they fired tear gas into a home on Oak Avenue in Sorrento.
Police said they got a tip that accused bank robber, Jack Otto, was hiding in that house. So the Lake County SWAT Team locked down the neighborhood and surrounded the area.
"Something like this happens, you're concerned about your community," said Shirley Meade a resident.
Investigators say Otto, 63, is accused of robbing an Insight Credit Union in Eustis on Valentine's Day. He allegedly entered the bank with a rifle that was hidden in a box of take out food.
"One of our deputies went out to this location and they noticed a vehicle in the driveway that matched the description that was used in the bank robbery," said John Herrell with the Lake County Sheriff's Office. "At that point a perimeter was established."
Armed with high powered weapons, law enforcement waited for more than three hours.
"At that point the SWAT team was on the perimeter. They began pumping rounds of gas into the windows," Herrell said.
Otto eventually gave up just after 7:00pm.
Other people live in the home but investigators said there is no indication they knew about the bank robbery.
Otto was being held in the Lake County jail Thursday night and investigators said he would be charged with armed robbery.
