OSCEOLA COUNTY, FLa. — A grandmother, mother and daughter from Massachusetts were killed in a multivehicle crash Tuesday evening in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Julie Smith, 41, of Whitman, Massachusetts; 5-year-old Scarlett Smith of Whitman and 76-year-old Josephine Fay of South Weymouth, Massachusetts all died from injuries related to the crash, according to FHP.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on State Road 429 at Sinclair Road when a pickup truck rear-ended the van carrying eight people, FHP said. The driver of the pickup truck didn’t slow and rear-ended a van, causing it to overturn. The truck then hit two other vehicles.

Scarlett Smiths’ twin sister was not injured, FHP said.

An 11-year-old boy is also in critical condition and unresponsive, FHP said. Two men are in stable condition at a hospital. A 10-year-old girl was not injured.

The van was a rental and had seven seats, but was carrying eight people, FHP said. All family members were from out of state.

The southbound lanes of State Road 429 are closed near I-4 while troopers investigate the scene. It is not known when they will reopen.
