Armed man shot, killed by Orlando police officers was driving stolen car, suspect in residential burglary, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. — Two Orlando police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting that left an armed man dead, investigators said Tuesday.

Police said an officer in an unmarked car saw the suspect, identified as Kevin Aldophe, 22, drive a stolen car into Coconut Palms Apartments off Conroy Road. They said the officer called for marked officers to respond to the scene, and when they did Aldophe parked the car and ran away.

Police said Alpophe was involved in a residential burglary and attempted residential burglary at Coconut Palms Apartments Tuesday morning and was, for an unknown reason, returning to the scene.

During the pursuit by police, officers said the suspect pulled out a gun as he fled toward Summerfield Apartments.

Police released two still security camera photos from the burglary calls earlier in the day.

Police Chief Orlando Rolon said the shooting could have been avoided.

“This is a situation that could have been avoided if the individual had not resisted by running and being in possession of a weapon,” he said.

Orlando police said two officers were involved in the shooting, and both have been relieved of duty with pay as the investigation into the shooting continues.

An officer-in-training who was also on the scene was not involved in the shooting, but will be put on administrative leave for a few days, police said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
