Brother of NBA star Amare Stoudemire killed in Polk County crash

POLK COUNTY, Fla.,None — Hazell Stoudemire, brother of New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire, was killed in a car crash Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP report a car driven by Hazell Stoudemire, 35, of Lakeland, was traveling at a high rate of speed on State Road 27 near Lake Wales when it collided with the rear of a tractor trailer.

Hazell Stoudemire died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to FHP. The driver of the second vehicle wasn't injured.

The Associated Press reported that Amare Stoudemire is returning to Florida and will miss Monday night's game against Utah.

Amare Stoudemire is a graduate of Cypress Creek High School.
