A Ford van driven by 54-year-old Jeanine Kern was going southbound on John Young Parkway. The Cadillac, driven by 73-year-old Mary Brenenborg, was heading northbound in the left through-lane when the van attempted to make a left turn onto Whisper Lakes Boulevard and was struck by the Cadillac.
The Cadillac's airbags deployed and Brenenborg told FHP she was unable to see and drove through a fence, crashing into a swimming pool.
"At first I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' Because you would think this is stuff that you only see in movies and TV shows. But apparently it happens in real life," homeowner Raphael Caceres said.
Brenenborg was able to get out of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. She was treated at Florida Hospital Kissimmee.
FHP says the drivers have conflicting statements about who had the green light/arrow. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
The driver of the Ford van also suffered minor injuries and was treated at Dr. Phillips Hospital.
