Cocoa Man Arrested In Parents' Stabbing

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 21-year-old Cocoa man, who the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said stabbed his parents early Thursday morning, was arrested in South Carolina hours later.

A warrant was issued from Brevard County for Charles C. Clifton. He was arrested during a traffic stop by officers from Manning Police Department in South Carolina (see map). Clifton was taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of attempted felony murder.

Deputies responded after midnight to Cliftons Cove Court and Cardinal Road (see map) after receiving a 911 call from Mr. E. Clifton, who said that both he and his wife had been stabbed by their son, Charles.

Investigators said Charles Clifton became enraged during a discussion, grabbed a knife and began stabbing his father; when his mother attempted to intercede, he began stabbing her.

Charles Clifton then fled the residence.

Both victims were taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center where they are listed in critical condition.
